Our Urban Riverfly online training session will build skills in riverfly monitoring, identification, data collection, and urban water quality.
This event must be booked through our Eventbrite page as places are limited:
📅 Date & Time: Tuesday 3 March, 10am to 3pm
📍 Meet at the Newgate Nature Reserve on Newgate Lane off Racecourse Road, Wilmslow. Parking is free but spaces are limited.
We will be working in partnership with the Bollin Valley Partnership Ranger at Newgate Nature Reserve. Newgate nature reserve is a fine example of how industrial land can be returned to nature.
We will be undertaking woodland management of the newly developed woodland by coppicing the trees, and then creating dead hedge habitat for wildlife.
Coppicing is the traditional method of cutting a tree to a stump, which in many species encourages new shoots to grow. This ancient practice maintains a varied structure, emulating natural woodland clearings and supporting rich biodiversity, with different stages of regrowth benefiting various wildlife.
Work will include use of hand tools such as loppers and saws. Equipment and training will be provided.
