Ahoy there, mateys!
We’re part of the buccaneering anti-littering campaign Treasure Your River and are looking for new recruits to join our crew.
Our rivers are the heart of our communities and are a treasured habitat for a huge range of animals and humans alike. We’re working with Hubbub, The Rivers Trust, and other partners around the UK to help keep our rivers in ship-shape condition and to stop litter reaching our rivers and the seven seas.
Mersey Rivers Trust is recruiting crew-mates to help with activities in Manchester, Salford and Liverpool. Want to help us make a difference?
From May until November 2021 we’ll be running events suitable for anyone to get on board. Here’s a taster of what you could get involved with:
- Take part in a scavenger hunt litter pick – make your mark and discover the difference you can make on a mini-litter-pick adventure – events in June to October.
- Vote with your rubbish in pirate-themed bins – we’ll be putting pirate-themed bins around Salford, Manchester and Liverpool.

Plastic fishing at Salford Quays!
From 2-9 July, volunteers climbed aboard a boat made from 99% recycled plastic to help us fish for rubbish and abandoned treasures in Salford Quays. The crew collected 206 bags of litter over the week including staggering amounts of plastic bottles, polystyrene and crisp/sweet packets.
There were a few special finds too, here are some of our favourites!
